This free word search maker turns any list of words into a printable puzzle in seconds. Enter up to 20 words — spelling words, family names, a birthday theme, science vocabulary — choose your grid size and difficulty (easy puzzles place words horizontally and vertically; harder ones add diagonal and reversed words), and the generator builds the puzzle plus a separate answer key.

Frequently asked questions

How many words can I put in a word search?

Up to 20 words per puzzle. For young children, 6-8 short words in a small grid works best; older puzzlers can handle 15-20 words in a 15×15 or larger grid.

Can I control the difficulty?

Yes. Easy mode places words horizontally and vertically only. Medium adds diagonals. Hard also allows reversed words — much trickier to spot.

Does the generator include an answer key?

Yes. Every puzzle comes with a matching answer key showing where each word is hidden, printed on a separate sheet so you can keep it aside.

What can I use word searches for?
